In tribal and underdeveloped areas like Gadchiroli, education is not just about textbooks — it is a lifeline. It empowers children to break free from the cycle of poverty, unemployment, and illiteracy. It gives them the courage to dream and the tools to build a better future. For us at Josh Foundation, education is the first and most important step toward lasting change.
Challenges in Tribal Areas
For many children and parents in remote villages, education remains out of reach. The hardships they face include:
Lack of nearby schools — children have to walk long distances through forests or unsafe paths.
Poor school infrastructure — many government schools lack benches, toilets, drinking water, or proper classrooms.
Financial burden — families are unable to afford school fees, uniforms, or books.
Dropouts — children are often forced to leave school to support their families or due to lack of motivation and guidance.
No exposure to skill-based learning — unemployed youth are left without direction or income opportunities.
These challenges result in a lost generation that grows up without education, job skills, or hope.
Our Approach
The Josh Foundation is working to remove these barriers and build a future where every tribal child can learn and grow. Our key initiatives include:
Mainstreaming Out-of-School Children
We identify children who are not enrolled or have dropped out, and bring them back into the education system through community outreach and counselling.
Local School Facilities
We have established the Josh School of Excellence at Dechalipetha, where more than 120 children from tribal communities are receiving quality education in a safe and supportive environment.
Financial Support
We provide free education, books, uniforms, and study materials to poor and orphaned children who otherwise could not afford to go to school.
Skill Training for Youth
To fight unemployment and migration, we provide basic vocational and life skills training to tribal youth, helping them find meaningful work or become self-employed
Awareness Among Parents
We engage with families to explain the importance of education, especially for girls, and help build a supportive environment for continued learning.
