Why Healthcare in Gadchiroli District?

Gadchiroli is one of the most underdeveloped and tribal-dominated districts in Maharashtra. Over 75% of its population lives in remote villages surrounded by forests, cut off from basic services. Due to poor roads, lack of transport, and Naxal-affected areas, healthcare has remained a distant dream for many tribal families.

Infant mortality, maternal deaths, malnutrition, and untreated diseases are sadly common in these areas. According to government data, the district ranks among the lowest in healthcare indicators in Maharashtra. Basic facilities like ambulances, doctors, medicines, and even primary health centers are either absent or severely limited.

In such areas, providing healthcare is not just a service – it is saving lives. People walk for hours to reach a health centre or depend on local healers. That’s why The Josh Foundation stepped in – to make healthcare available, affordable, and accessible right at the village level.

What we do?

The Josh Foundation runs a Charitable Hospital at Jimalgatta, at the heart of the tribal belt. This hospital is a ray of hope for nearly 100 surrounding villages. We focus on basic medical care, maternal and child health, first-aid, diagnosis, and referrals.
